It was a genuine pleasure to see the wonderful turnout last night for my presentation on architecture called 'The Built Environment' for the Manitoba Camera Club! The presence of colleagues and clients that I have worked with in the past was a good testament I think to the excellent work that we all did as contributors, both of the design work itself and of capturing that design in photographs. It was fun to take a trip back into 'memory lane' and revisit architectural projects from the last 20 years.
I was honored last night to have amongst us, a number of architects who have designed and worked on some of the wonderful building projects in Winnipeg. They included Etienne Gaboury, Jason Kasper (Ideate Design Consulting), Larry Hamilton (Architecture 49), Michael Farion (Number Ten Architects) and Mike Karakas (Architecture 49).
Thank you to all who attended - friends, colleagues, members from the various camera clubs and special guests!

'La Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface' is the second book published in Manitoba CountryScapes series (Série Lieux et Paysages du Manitoba) by Vidacom. It is an honor to have collaborated with internationally renowned architect 'extraordinaire' Etienne Gaboury as well as with Joanne Therrien of 'Les Editions des Plaines'. Etienne Gaboury is also the architect behind such famous local landmarks as The Royal Canadian Mint, The Esplanade Riel bridges and Eglise Precieux-Sang to name just a few of his lifetime accomplishments. This book is offered in a hard cover and a soft cover edition as well as in both French and English editions! 'Tetro Design' was responsible for the layout and design while I was the principle photographer for this book.

'La Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface' and 'Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes' are the first two books to be published in a new book series called 'Lieux et paysages du Manitoba' (loosely translated, it means 'Places and Landscapes of Manitoba'). Over the course of the next few years, many new titles will be added, including 'Le Manitoba' (Manitoba), 'Churchill et les ours polaires' (Churchill and polar bears) and 'Saint-Léon' in the coming year. This series is published by Les Editions des Plaines and Vidacom of Winnipeg, designed by Tetro Design and printed by Friesens in Altona making this a truly 'Manitoba Made' Project. The books are available in both French and English editions.
It is exciting to be collaborating with renowned architect Etienne Gaboury and 'Plaines' president Joanne Therrien in 'La Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface'. The book features fascinating historical facts, archival photos and recent photographs from your truly. 'Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes' is the first of a series of books to honour the many 'French speaking villages in the Province of Manitoba.

'Winnipeg Skyline at Sunrise' - Manitoba Series (Notecard and Photographic Print)
"The Winnipeg skyline, seen from the east, features two iconic architectural structures: the Canadian Museum For Human Rights, designed by American architect Antoine Predock and the Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge designed by Winnipeg architect Étienne Gaboury. The bridge crosses the Red River and connects downtown Winnipeg and Saint-Boniface, Canada’s largest French speaking community beyond Quebec.
The ‘Belt of Venus’, an atmospheric phenomenon seen just before sunrise or after sunset, glows bright pink above the darker blue layer known as the ‘Earth’s Shadow’. This pink glow, also known as an ‘anti-twilight arch’, extends some 10-20 degrees above the horizon and is caused by a backscattering of reddish light from the rising or setting sun".
