This coming Thursday, November 3 (2016) at 7 PM, I will be launching my new book 'MANITOBA - LAND OF THE UNEXPECTED’ in the Atrium of McNally Robinson Booksellers store in Grant Park Shopping Centre, 1120 Grant Ave) in Winnipeg, MB. This book was published by Les Editions des Plaines in Winnipeg and printed in Altona, Manitoba, making this another great 'Made In Manitoba' project, at least in my mind! This book is the result of some 30 years of exploring one of Canada's best kept secrets! I look forward to sharing it with you.

'Manitoba - Land of the Unexpected' has been printed! The page signatures are now drying and will be assembled, collated and bound in the next few days. This latest book by 'Les Editions des Plaines' should arrive in Winnipeg towards the end of next week.
I spent the day yesterday proofing and approving the page signatures as they came off the press. We experienced absolutely no glitches whatsoever as we had done due diligence a few weeks earlier during prepress making all the necessary conversions and tweaks to the photographs. A big thank you to the good folks at Friesens - Gaylan Hildebrand, Printer, Aron Friesens, Customer Service Representative, Donovan Bergman, Sales Representative and Ralph Hamm - as well as to Joanne Therrien, Publisher of 'Les Editions des Plaines'.

Stay tuned for an announcement about the book launch.

This coming Wednesday I travel to Friesens in Altona, Manitoba to print my latest book 'Manitoba: Land of the Unexpected'. It’s always a pleasure to spend time at Friesens. I particularly enjoy browsing through the recently published books in their library. Between the many visits to the pressroom, I peruse as many books from my hand-picked selection as I can, often at the expense of catching up on my sleep!
This latest book by ‘Les Editions des Plaines’ is the first in a series about Canadian provinces. Last year, ‘Les Editions des Plaines’ reprinted my ‘Canada’ book and, the year before that, they published our book about the ‘Saint-Boniface Cathedral’ as part of yet another series on special places and icons of Manitoba. More books to come in the future!
Creating any book always involves a lot of hard work as well as a great deal of time. The many steps involved include coming up with a concept followed by the photography, the processing of images, the writing, the layout, the editing, the proofing, the prepress work, more proofing, and more proofing still and, finally, the printing. A book launch has been scheduled for McNally Robinson in Winnipeg on November 3rd but more on that later!

Over the course of the last few months, I have been creating new images in the Saint-Boniface neighbourhood of Winnipeg. To be exact, I have been photographing the remains of the old Saint-Boniface Cathedral (the Fifth Church) which burned on July 22nd, 1968 as well as the new Saint-Boniface Cathedral (the Sixth Church) which was completed in 1972. Did you know there were 6 churches built on that site? I most certainly didn't. This last church was designed by our very own 'architecte extraordinaire' - Étienne Gaboury. Most of you probably know that Étienne designed a number of iconic Winnipeg buildings and structures such as the Esplanade Riel Bridge, The Royal Canadian Mint, l'église Precieux-Sang (Precious Blood Church), le Centre culturel Franco-Manitobain, the Manitoba Remand Centre and the Videon Cable Building amongst many others.
