Join celebrated nature photographer Mike Grandmaison on his journey to Churchill as he ventures into the homeland of the polar bear. Combining photographs with enlightening facts on these animals and their environment, The Polar Bear: Lord of the Great North is intended to captivate anyone eager to take a closer look at these fascinating creatures.

Mike Grandmaison is undisputedly one of Canada’s true masters of fine nature photography. An alumnus of Sudbury, Ontario’s Laurentian University, Mike studied biology, graduating in 1976. For the two subsequent decades, he worked in water quality, as well as forest entomology and pathology, before turning his attention to professional photography. Camera steadfastly in hand, he has explored the breadth of Canada, his beloved country, and Manitoba, the province he has called home for the last thirty-three years. Mike owns and manages a full-service stock photography agency, and produces assignment photography specializing in architecture and nature for clients worldwide.

I am looking forward to seeing renown photographer Michelle Valberg's work live on the 'big screen' this coming Saturday, May 4. Nothing beats a 'live' performance for those who have the opportunity to attend. From landscapes to wildlife to portraits, Michelle - also a Nikon Ambassador - is sure to inspire. A photo event such as this is a wonderful way to grow as a photographer, to learn and to be inspired by the work of fellow artists. No matter who you are, one should always be receptive to seeing the work of other artists. I have attended dozens of photo seminars over the years and they have proven invaluable to my growth as an artist.

This is the 6th Annual Event sponsored by the Manitoba Photo Events. In the past, the group has hosted other well-known Canadian artists such as Andre Gallant, Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou, David duChemin, Dave Brosha and Paul Zizka.

The Saturday event runs from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM with registration from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The event takes place at the SAMUEL N. COHEN AUDITORIUM of the St. Boniface Hospital at 351 Taché Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. You can purchase your ticket online or in person from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Saturday at the event.

Hope to see many of you there!

Michelle Valberg, this year's presenter at the 6th Annual Manitoba Photo Event, will provide an excellent opportunity for you to learn and be inspired. A Canadian Nikon Ambassador, she is well known for her outstanding photography of human portraiture as well as for her wildlife and landscape work. She owns her own studio and business in Ottawa and she travels the world leading adventure tours. Some years ago, I attended one of her seminars in Ottawa called ‘Dare to Dream’ - a celebration of Canadian women, the faces & stories of people with hiv/aids. It was a touching and inspiring program.

In Winnipeg on Saturday, May 4, 2019, Michelle will be presenting a one-day seminar in which she will discuss some of her adventures, focusing on wildlife as well as landscape. She will also talk about her philanthropy, or giving back through photography.

The event takes place at the:

    SAMUEL N. COHEN AUDITORIUM

St. Boniface Hospital - 351 Taché Avenue

    WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

Michelle’s program will run from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Registration opens at 8:00 AM

You can read more about Michelle as well as register at Manitoba Photo Events http://manitobaphotoevents.ca/2019Event/tabid/478/Default.aspx

Friend, graphic designer 'extraordinaire' and co-author Robert L. Peters and I are extremely proud and very excited to launch our book 'Natural Reflections' on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at McNally Robinson Booksellers. The launch begins at 7:00 PM in the Atrium of the Winnipeg store in Grant Park Mall. We invite you to check out the Facebook Page called 'Natural Reflections' to read more about the book as well as browse some sample pages.

Rob and I met back in 1990 when he joined the young enterprise called 'Praxis Photographic Workshops' along with commercial photographer Paul Martens, Naturalist/Photographer Celes Davar and I, Forestry Technician/Photographer. Together we provided photographic instruction to the local community for a couple of years before our full-time jobs and family responsibilities made it simply unsustainable to continue. Celes and I had young families and challenging positions with the Federal Government while Paul serviced commercial clients in Winnipeg and abroad and Rob managed a small team of graphic designers at Circle (Design) designing work for clients around the world.

Early on, Rob and I recognized that we had similar publishing interests and we began working on the framework that would become 'Natural Reflections'. Through a number of all-night stands after busy work days, we drafted the outline of five chapters and made extensive notes that became the ideas for each chapter. On and off, as time permitted, we reviewed the draft documents, made revisions and edited images. We pledged that some day we would see this project to fruition. Finally, in the summer of 2016, I met publisher Don Gorman of Rocky Mountain Books at an American Writer's Conference in Missoula, Montana and, after some brief communication, he commissioned 'Natural Reflections' for a future publication.

We are both looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible to the upcoming launch on June 21, also coinciding with the Summer Solstice (First Day of Summer) and the National Indigenous Peoples Day. Mark your calendar!
