For the entire month of October, Winnipeg will come alive with PHOTOGRAPHY. FlashFest, the brainchild of photographer Leif Norman, will feature over forty photographers in thirty three venues throughout the city - cafés, shops, public spaces and galleries. Winnipeg has a long and established reputation as a leader in visual arts within Western Canada and this inaugural FLASH Photographic Festival will showcase the diverse range of artists working in the photographic medium.

Personally, I will be involved in three separate events. The first event will feature my photographic exhibition 'Prairie and Beyond ll' at Aspire Studios (289 King Street). The exhibition will run the entire month of October. On Friday October 3rd, I will be involved in an 'Art Talk' starting at 7:30 PM. Rose-Anne Harder, Director of the Manitoba Arts Network, will be on hand to introduce the exhibition. This exhibition, along with 'Prairie and Beyond l', has been traveling to Manitoba communities for the last two years. Leif Norman, Director of FlashFest, will then interview me about my work.

On Saturday, October 25, from 2-5 PM, I will be signing books at the WOW Mabuhay Gift Shop in the Johnston Terminal at the Forks. This new store opened in July and features a number of my photographic prints on display, along with copies of my books.

I will also be participating in a group exhibition that will hang at The Winnipeg Art Gallery's Storm Bistro foyer on the 4th floor. This show will feature one photograph from each photographer participating in this year's photo festival for the entire month of October.

An Opening Reception takes place on October 1, 2014 at 8pm at the The Winnipeg Art Gallery (300 Memorial Boulevard, Winnipeg). Mark your calendar now and plan to see as many photo events as you can during Winnipeg's very first FlashFest. It promises to be an exciting event!

I will be attending 'Scattered Seeds' again this year. This is the annual Chrismas Craft Show & Sale that happens at the Red River Exhibition Hall in Winnipeg, Manitoba from October 18 - 20, 2013. This is an excellent opportunity to get your Christmas shopping done early!

I will be on hand to sign copies of my latest book 'Prairie and Beyond'. You can find me at my publisher's booth - Turnstone Press.

I will be around during the following times:

Friday, October 18 from 10 AM to 2 PM

Saturday, October 19 from 10 AM to 1 PM

Sunday, October 20 from Noon to 1 PM

The book 'Prairie and Beyond' was honoured on a few occasions this year. First it received a 2012 PIA Certificate of Merit in the category 'Art Books' in the 2012 Premier Print Award Competition. Later, it was nominated for two 2013 Manitoba Book Awards: Best Illustrated Book of the Year and the Mary Scorer Award for Best Book by a Manitoba Publisher.

The book was also the inspiration for a traveling print exhibition called 'Prairie and Beyond'. Two exhibitions of large-scale photographic prints (12 and 26 prints each) are traveling throughout Manitoba communities from September 2012 to December 2014. The exhibition was produced by The Manitoba Arts Network.

It is a slightly smaller show than its counterpart above with twelve 30” x 20” framed photographs, designed for smaller-scale exhibition spaces.

The photographs in each of the two exhibitions are different.

My travelling print show entitled 'Prairie & Beyond II' is now on exhibition at the Fort la Reine Museum, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba from August 1 until September 30, 2013. The Fort la Reine Museum is pleased to have this travelling exhibition on loan from the Manitoba Arts Network which produced this exhibition of custom printed photographs selected from selections of my most recent coffee table book, 'Mike Grandmaison’s Prairie and Beyond'. The book was published by Turnstone Press and is available for purchase at the Fort la Reine Museum.

"Grandmaison’s beautiful collection of Prairie images takes you on an intimate, colorful journey across our vast and rugged landscape” wrote The Winnipeg Free Press.
