This year, in 2017, Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary as a country. Join me this coming Friday, January 27 at 7 PM as I illustrate some of this country's prime landscape destinations as well as discuss some of my favorite images. I understand that attendance for this event is near capacity but, if you really want to come and see it, call Photo Central at 204-774-4343 and ask to be included on the waiting list. Invariably, there are always some folks who can't attend an event at the last minute for various reasons. See you Friday evening!

Photo Central is situated at 957 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

    Canada, across from DeLuca's.

FlashFest, Winnipeg's Annual Photography Festival, begins this Saturday, October 1 and runs through the entire month of October. FlashFest promotes photography, mostly by Manitobans, via a series of events including photography exhibits and a Dodge+Burn Series of Lectures on October 5, 12, 19 and 26. I will be presenting the first lecture of this series called' Photography Is Not Art, or So It Seems'. The lecture series will take place at Photo Central, 957 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 7-8 PM.

An Opening Party is scheduled for Monday October 3rd, 2016 from 8-11pm at Forth (171 McDermot Ave). For a complete list of events, please check the FlashFest website. A printed Program of Events (sponsored by Friesens) is also available at participating venues.

Photo Central, Winnipeg's premier photography store, is starting up a lecture series on various aspects of photography showcasing local, acclaimed image makers. I am always excited and supportive of new venues featuring any aspect of photography.

The first lecture of this series takes place this Friday evening (September 30th) featuring one of Canada's finest nature photographers, Dennis Fast (evidenced by the exceptional photo above). While admission is free, registrants are asked to bring a donation of either non-perishable food items for Winnipeg Harvest or a minimum $10 cash donation for Habitat for Humanity, two great humanitarian causes!

Seating is limited and you must sign up in advance at the following link:

The evening begins at at 7:00 PM sharp but registrants are asked to arrive between 6:30 and 6:50 PM so that the presentation can begin on time. Photo Central is situated at 957 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, across the street from DeLucca's.

    Let's support photography in Winnipeg!

After nearly 1.5 years of planning and production, I launched a photographic print gallery called 'The Canadian Gallery'. Andrew Toews, owner of Photo Central (Winnipeg's Pro camera store), made me an offer I simply could not resist and I subsequently set up a gallery in an unused space on the second floor. The gallery showcases my premier collection of fine art nature photographs. Along with the physical space, I also launched a new web site dedicated to promoting only my fine art photography at www.thecanadiangallery.com

I have always been a strong proponent of buying locally, whether it's buying vegetables at the local market or purchasing a camera at a local camera store. The benefits of dealing with local businesses far outweigh the few "pennies' you may save buying out of town.
