    The old gas pumps in Baljennie, Saskatchewan were photographed circa 1981. Baljennie is the town my wife's paternal family settled in when John Rayner immigrated from England in 1903 and founded 'Bolton Farm'. The farm remains in the Rayner family today.

    As I get older, family history seems to take on a greater importance. The inset photo shows my paternal grandparents, Christine Bosse (1879-1929) and Joseph Grandmaison (1876-1963), a photo I had never seen before. In fact, there are relatively few photos of my grandmother in existence. I made this photograph of the house my grandparents lived in Saint-Jacques, New Brunswick when I visited in 2009. The house has obviously been upgraded but still stands. Next time I think I will knock on the door and ask the owners if I may quickly look in....
