I ventured out onto the Seine River this past weekend. It's always a thrill to walk on the ice before it becomes blanketed with snow. It hasn't been particularly cold yet so I was a little apprehensive. I followed the deer tracks and came upon this tiny leaf amidst the ice pattern.

It was dreamlike this morning in Winnipeg with the sun rising just above the thick fog. Hoarfrost also covered trees and shrubs although it melted within a couple of hours. I never tire of that wonderful warm/cool color contrast.

Photographing in blizzard conditions can be challenging, especially with a high windchill and frigid temperatures of colder than -40 degrees Celsius, to say nothing of possible polar bears lurking about. The landscape on the Hudson Bay shoreline near Churchill resembled an etching with few tones beyond black and white. I further accentuated the dramatic look by removing all mid tones, creating a stark high contrast monochrome image.
