The 'Word On The Water' Book Festival' is finally here! Drop in Kenora, Ontario for a weekend of presentations, readings, workshops and exhibitions by many well known Canadian authors. And you can now start reading book reviews of some of the authors' works. Come meet and mingle with the authors. How cool is that!

On Saturday morning, I look forward to presenting 'Stories Behind The Lens' as well as being a panelist on 'Professionalism 101' with authors Duncan Weller and Charles Wilkins in the afternoon.

On Sunday, I will lead a full-day photo workshop 'Viewfinder To Print' in Kenora.

But to start it all off, I will be at Tangled Tree Framing and Gifts to meet with folks and chat about 'Natural Reflections', my latest photography exhibition, showing from October 11 to November 9, 2013. I will be on hand from 1 - 3 PM Friday.

I'm looking forward to meeting many of you in Kenora this weekend!

I look forward to presenting at this year's 'Word On The Water' Book Festival in Kenora, Ontario on beautiful Lake of the Woods. I will be involved in two different presentations on Saturday.

Room For Readers Saturday, October 26. 10:00 – 11:00 AM

NATURAL REFLECTIONS - Stories Behind The Lens

In this illustrated presentation using some of my most evocative images, I will share my thoughts and approach to photographing the natural world as well as discuss the 'how and the why' behind some of those images.

Room For Writers Saturday, October 26. 3:30 – 4:30 PM

    PROFESSIONALISM 101 - The Not-So-Glamorous Life

I will be joining authors Duncan Weller (Children's Illustrator, Author, Film Maker) and Charles Wilkins (Creative Non-Fiction NY Times Best Seller) in a panel discussion about the reality of working as a professional artist.

Because creating is 'in our blood', as artists we seldom retire. Artists don't like to think about business. All the more reason why artists need to understand the 'business of art'.

I have been very fortunate indeed to have pursued my passion at 'Making A Living At Nature Photography'. Creating images as a lifestyle is a dream for many. However, so many things have changed in the last 5 years.

We need a 'reality check'. I look forward to discussing this topic with my colleagues from different sectors of the 'art industry'.

Come watch a real REALITY SHOW.

    Don't forget ....

Print Exhibition: Mid-show launch. Friday, October 25, 1-3 PM at 'Tangled Tree'

Photography Workshop: Sunday, October 27, 2013

The area that stretches from Kenora south to Morson in Northwest Ontario is sparsely populated and not a popular destination for travelers as they mostly confine themselves to the TransCanada Highway from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay. This area is however very scenic as cottage owners know only too well. While Rushing River Provincial Park is clearly the most popular destination in the area, the landscape in and around beautiful Lake of The Woods is second to none in terms of beauty. From fog blanketed lakes at sunrise to blazing red maples in autumn, there is plenty to explore here. You are sure to hear the haunting cry of the loon and, if you are truly lucky, you may just witness a timber wolf cross Dryberry Creek as I did last weekend while photographing red maple trees reflecting in the creek.

On Sunday, October 27, I will conduct a one-day photo workshop - 'Viewfinder To Print' - which will involve an outdoor 'sunrise session' as well as an indoor session where we will edit, process and learn about translating our vision to the final image. Finally, we will critique some of the morning's photographs.

From October 11 to November 9, I will exhibit NATURAL REFLECTIONS, a selection of large scale photographs at Tangled Tree Framing & Gifts in Kenora. The exhibition is co-sponsored by Tangled Tree Framing & Gifts, Elizabeth Campbell Books and Word On The Water Book Festival.
