While in Kenora last August to do a book signing for my Ontario book (Turnstone Press) at Elizabeth Campbell Books, I spent a few hours in the early part of the morning exploring the area. Driving along the TransCanada Highway, the sun peeked through the clouds long enough to create these long, dramatic shadows of evergreen trees.

Finally, the Ontario Book Tour begins!

This Tuesday, May 19, I start the tour with a presentation in Dryden, ON. During this book tour, I will be visiting select communities and cities in Ontario to make presentations and book signings of my recent book 'Mike Grandmaison's Ontario' by Turnstone Press. You can preview a few images from the book from past blog postings. Clicking on the image above will allow you to connect on other links.

The various events will include some traditional book signings as well as some illustrated presentations. This coming July 10-26, 2015, the city of Toronto in ONTARIO, Canada will host the 2015 PAN AMERICAN GAMES. In addition, the city will also host the PARAPAN AM GAMES from August 7-15, 2015. Together, TORONTO and ONTARIO will welcome visitors, tourists and delegates from all over the world as well as from various parts of Canada. The World will be focusing their sights on ONTARIO this coming summer.

‘Mike Grandmaison’s ONTARIO’ recently released book will make an exceptional souvenir for anyone looking for a fine memento or gift of their travels to ONTARIO.

“From the ancient mineral deposits of the northern Canadian Shield to the fertile farmlands of the South, Ontario offers a myriad of spectacular landscape that acclaimed photographer Mike Grandmaison expertly captures. His wide-ranging lens covers Ontario’s vast and varied terrain, teeming with plant and wildlife.

Beyond the photographs, Dr. Gerard Courtin provides expert essays on Ontario’s flora, fauna, and geology. Grandmaison’s anecdotes and composition insights in the Stories Behind the Photographs are a fascinating glimpse into the conditions and circumstances surrounding his work.

A vision of riotous colour, grace, and beauty –‘ Mike Grandmaison’s Ontario’.

"Mike Grandmaison's Ontario is my Ontario. Every image in this collection takes me to a place I know, a place I've seen a thousand times, and yet a place I'm seeing as if for the first time. It's the Ontario I see when I close my eyes. Except for an occasional silo or lighthouse, it's the Ontario that has been here for 10,000 years, and now, thanks to these superb photographs, will remain with us for a long time to come." - Wayne Grady

The book may be purchased singly at many fine book stores throughout the province of Ontario and beyond or online. If multiple copies are required, the publisher Turnstone Press can offer a volume discount as well as fulfill your order quickly and efficiently.

Mike Grandmaison's Ontario will make a wonderful keepsake for years to come.

I have been on press all day, starting at 9:30 AM. 12 hours later and I have proofed 8 signatures. A signature is one sheet of printed paper that, once folded, will result in 12 pages of the book. Each signature must be printed on both sides. I will be checking a total of about 22 of these signatures for a total page count of 252 pages. It is going very well so far with minimal tweaking. I cannot overstate the importance of doing good prepress work earlier as it really makes the printing a much easier task. The first two signatures usually set the tone for the others. I'm always a bit nervous doing this because so much is at stake for the publisher (Turnstone Press) and myself. I end up looking at the color fairly critically and looking for any potential marks, blemishes, etc. Once I am happy, I sign off and the rest of the signature gets printed. About 1.5 hours later, I return to do the same thing. It will take approximately 35 consecutive hours of printing to complete the book. Needless to say, it will be an all-nighter!

Shown above is master printer Darrell Hildebrand checking out a signature. Darrell is retiring next week after 27 years in the business! I have worked with Darrell on a few books over the years. Wishing you well in your future endeavours Darrell!
