"Going back to Cypress River, back to the old farmhouse. Prairie wind blowing through my head". These lyrics from Neil Young's 'Prairie Wind' finally resonated with me a few years after I made this image near Cypress River, MB.

Remember the non-energy efficient windows? They were wonderful canvases to work on! On very cold days, I can still capture frost patterns on one of the bedroom windows. Look especially at sunrise/sunset when the contrast between warm and cool colors is quite evident.

I noticed this ruffed grouse on the roadside and stopped to observe it for a while. It eventually flew across to the other side of the road and made me think that it would be interesting to try and capture it in flight. It eventually returned to a tree on the other side of the road after which I readied myself for a shot. As I approached closer to the grouse, it once again left the tree and I quickly followed its motion releasing the shutter a few times. I was happy to find one frame in focus, particularly since I captured the image from close range without remote triggers or sophisticated technology. It's nice to have 'Lady luck' on your side occasionally.

A field of daisies, hawkweed and an unknown yellow flower in Northern Ontario created a wonderful mosaic of colour.
