'Prairie Storm' - Manitoba Series (Notecard and Photographic Print)

Manitoba has a strong history rooted in agriculture. Across much of the province’s south and central region and, even extending into northwestern Manitoba, one can find one of the most varied crop selections in the country.  From the more traditional wheat, barley and oat crops, it is not unusual to see many fields of oilseed crops growing throughout the summer like canola, flax, sunflowers and soybeans. Other crops like buckwheat, pulses and a whole variety of vegetables can also be found growing on Manitoba farms.

The success of these crops is very much dependent upon the local weather and this photograph captures light as it illuminates a field of canola after a passing storm, leaving the foreground crop of flax in deep shade.
