'Inglis Prairie Giants' - Manitoba Series (Notecard and Photographic Print)
Inglis, Manitoba is home to the Five Prairie Giants – the Inglis Elevators. These prairie sentinels are preserved as the Inglis Grain Elevators National Historic Site. The elevators preserved are the Paterson elevator, the National elevator, the United Grain Growers elevator and two Reliance elevators. These five original elevators were built in 1922, the year the railway was established in the town of Inglis.
This site represents one of the most important periods in the development of the Canadian grain industry. Rows of these iconic architectural symbols of the Prairies were prominently seen in most prairie towns but many have now disappeared. Of the nearly 6,000 grain elevators that once towered over the Canadian Prairie, only about 850 grain elevators remain.
