It's an honour indeed to have one's artwork become the inspiration for another artist's art. Here is what Brenda had to say.
Visually captivating, ‘Mirrored Maze’ was inspired by a photograph from fine art photographer Mike Grandmaison that the artist came across while surfing the internet. The painting depicts a resplendent display of colourful fall foliage. Radiant reflections dance across the surface of the water, giving the impression of a mirrored maze; tangled branches, analogous shades of autumn, and crystal blue water. The image immediately stirred an artistic response within, appealing for a creative expression using paints.
Working with fluid acrylic paintson a primed, profile canvas (36 x 48), and a limited, primary palette of reds, yellows, blues, the paint was applied; pouring, knifing, and brushing shapes and blotches of colour, mimicking a mosaic. The birch trees on the opposite shoreline (now appearing inverted), were drawn loosely using a palette knife, and incorporating some brushwork as needed. Interspersed among the brilliant shades, the blues, representing crystal clear water, complimented the overall pattern. A splattering technique, of all colours, provided movement and unity to the piece. Finally, a thin application of tinted, clear tar gel, was drizzled overall; rendering an eddying effect of the water. The painting was enhanced and protected by a final coat of spray; a gloss varnish.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
II Corinthians 3:18
Just as Mike’s photograph, and my painting, portray the presence of a glorious array of autumn colour, as reflected in the water, we too reflect, ‘with ever-increasing glory’ what we behold.
Quote: “Beholding as in a mirror connotes ‘reflecting’ as well as ‘looking into’. As we behold the glory of the Lord, we are continually transformed into the same image by the Spirit of the Lord. (Note: taken from the Spirit-filled Life Study Bible; NKJV).
The photograph, aptly titled 'Autumn Mosaic' is the work of a talented Canadian photographer, Mike Grandmaison. With his approval, I am grateful to be able to present the results here.
